 NAD PP-2

The PP-2's external power supply ensures that transformer hum and noise does not intrude on the quality of the signal from the cartridge. Instead of using a plastic case the PP-2 uses a heavy-gauge steel box to house the electronics and avoid any RF contamination from outside influences such as radio stations and computers. Apart from RF contamination, the steel housing also minimizes external hum from nearby power amplifiers and other electronic devices.

The circuitry offers a gentle infrasonic filter to minimize any rumble emanating from the turntable or record itself. Instead of the standard 15-volt supply found on the PP-1 the PP-2 runs on 24 Volts for increased dynamic range. Extra on-board low-noise regulators further contain any spurious hum. The combination of external power supply, high-grade metal housing, low noise op-amp and other close-tolerance components achieve a signal-to-noise ratio you would normally expect only in costly amplifiers or receivers.

Attention to detail means that the input and output sockets for the turntable are gold plated to ensure a quality contact over even a prolonged period of time.

The end result is a simple, moving magnet and moving coil phono preamp that's superior in performance to many of the phono stages found in stand alone amplifiers and preamplifiers -- at a price that doesn't compete with what you paid for the rest of your electronics.
